Abstract

The coordination of complex production and logistics systems is a challenge. In the case of transport-intensive production of small lot-sizes, an integrated approach should be pursued that takes into account in sufficient detail the inter-dependencies between production and transport resources. We describe such an integrated approach based on software agents. We consider what information needs to be exchanged for coordination and how the information should be modelled in order to determine possible production sequences. A further aspect of the paper is the connection to and interaction with other software systems.
