Abstract

A hybrid approach with an additional actuator is presented which uses impulse transmission during mechanical impacts to abruptly accelerate a feed axis. The machine table is equipped with an actuator that moves an impulse mass relative to the table
and hits the intended impact surface at the required point in time. The result is that with this concept, for example, corners of a contour can be processed at a constant path velocity, since almost no acceleration and braking distances are required. Experimental
investigations are performed on a single-axis setup. In addition, a simulation model has been developed which shows the potential for multi-axis operation.
