Abstract

Industry 4.0 offers opportunities for new digital business models in the industrial context. While individual companies from the manufacturing and plant engineering sector have already implemented subscription business models, more and more companies are examining the possibility of changing their own business model. In doing so, they are faced with the question of how far findings from reference projects can be transferred. This article uses six case studies to illustrate three dimensions of subscription
business models and the associated relationships with regard to prerequisites, challenges and risks as well as customer benefits.
