Abstract

Network connections with sufficient bandwidth are available even across company boundaries, third-party monitoring and maintenance work for process chemical plants is common, experts are scarce, and Corona is pushing plant engineers into home office working. As a result, remote activities on process control systems are increasingly desirable, at the speed of light from the other side of the globe or from a mobile device right next to the plant (but not from the plant network). To ensure that security does not fall by the wayside, the NAMUR working group „Automation Security“ has revised Recommendation NE 135, which takes account of the rapid developments and provides implementation instructions.
