Abstract

An energy management system compliant with ISO 50001 helps companies monitor their energy consumption and  improve their energy efficiency. Since energy management requires a large amount of data to be collected and  managed, this paper presents a method for identifying  relevant variables on energy consumption and  incorporating them into energy performance indicators. The method is compliant with the ISO 50001 and 50006 standards and uses a process information model to  manage the data. The information meta-model simplifies the transferability of the method to a wide variety of  production systems. The six steps of the method are  explained in the course of the paper, and applied to an  exemplary use case of a communition process of a mine.  Thus, it is shown how the method can contribute to the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas  emissions.
