Abstract

The numbers of high efficient motors in industrial applications is strongly increasing. This is not only driven by legislature but also by customers who wish to consume CO2 reduced products. The operational behaviour and the mechanical design of high efficient IE3 or IE4 motors is varying from older motors. This article addresses the challenges a user may face when forced to replace an asynchronous motor in a brownfield application. Electrical parameters of the existing installation as well as assembly space and masses are considered.
