Abstract

On the way to climate-neutral production, the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) will become more important in the production of automation components and their energy consumption over their life cycle. Companies are currently prioritizing the optimization of their own share of PCF, including externally sourced energy. The share of PCF from capital goods is more difficult to measure but is dominant for plants in the process industries. The article discusses parts of the PCF over the complete life cycle of pneumatic actuators and also first approaches to evaluate the PCF for alternative technologies.
