Abstract

To unlock the full potential of innovative operation and maintenance workflows in the process industry through higher levels of automation, the field instrumentation level needs to be completely digitally transformed in a unified manner. Ethernet- APL is the enabling technology for this
transformation. In this article, the risks of new threat scenarios are discussed in the context of the network architecture of a process plant instrumented with Ethernet-
APL and appropriate security controls are proposed.
