Abstract

This article presents a Plant Information Management System (PIMS) as a central data infrastructure for predictive maintenance in process plants. Process values and device diagnostic data are fed into an AI-based anomaly detection system via a non-reactive side channel based on NAMUR Open Architecture (NOA). The focus is on new Ethernet-APL-based plants; HART-transparent brownfield plants are
considered as a migration scenario. At a test facility at the Technical University of Cologne, the data flow was implemented across nine field devices with 63 measurement points. The AI reliably detected injected anomalies before
the NE-107 device diagnostics did. In addition, maturity gaps in commercially available components are highlighted.
