Abstract

The use of generative AI, particularly large language models (LLMs), is a current and relevant challenge in higher education, business, and reserch. Universities must develop
a position on the use of LLMs. Instead of blanketly banning these technologies or using them without hesitation, students
should be guided to engage with the opportunities and risks in a nuanced way. A current teaching concept for developing
critical reflection is “inquiry-based learning”. This article reports on a teaching experiment in which first-semester students use inquiry-based learning to compare scientific
findings on the use of LLMs with their own experiments.
