Abstract

Communication systems are an integral part of modern control systems as they form the backbone of the communication between automation devices. The engineering of production systems and the integrated control systems has to take into account the details of the communication system. In each phase of the development process, engineering data is generated which is required in subsequent phases. However, the transfer of planning information through the life cycle of the production system is still a problem. Data exchange is not supported by any neutral data format which would enable the consistent and loss-free transfer of information engineering tools. A method is presented here for the modelling of communication systems based on AutomationML, developed by the AutomationML e.V.
