Abstract

Engineering is a key cost driver in automation. Therefore, both manufacturers and researchers are looking for ways to improve engineering efficiency. Unfortunately, it is not possible to examine new methods in an objective, systematic, reproducible or comparable way without being able to measure engineering efficiency. This contribution describes a novel approach for the automatic measurement and visualization of engineering efficiency which can be directly embedded in engineering tools. The present concept focuses on the engineering method rather than the efficiency of an individual engineer. It is applicable for any engineering tools.
