Abstract

At present, Industry 4.0 is mainly discussed in terms of the requirements for integrated production. Besides the vertical and horizontal integration of production and of relevant data through the plant life cycle, the requirements for interoperability between humans and machines as well as the requirements for learning and qualification of personnel will also change significantly in manufacturing and process industries. The article describes how the ability for innovation in these areas will become a major factor for securing competitiveness in Germany.
