Abstract

We describe a concept for an electronic data exchange of System Control Diagrams (SCDs) between the process engineering and control engineering domains, allowing automatic generation of automation code in the in the target control system. SCDs are standardized by the Norwegian Norsok organization and contain, in contrast to P&IDs, concrete application blocks and their interrelations, a real representation of the control application. SCDs are interdisciplinary and present the automation information at the process context in the same diagram. Their application in the Norwegian oil and gas industry is well established and of high
value for the automation departments and control room operators. However, electronic data exchange is not yet seamless. This paper describes how to digitalize and transfer SCDs by means of AutomationML. Equinor has already begun to request it in their tenders and to use it in their projects.
