Abstract

After ten years of Industry 4.0, it is time to look at the goals of fully networked production. All too often, the actual structure of production control is unchanged, despite all digitalization. The SmartFactory KL technology initiative has therefore developed a vision for the coming years under the label of the Production Level 4 mission statement. To implement this vision, a new, modular and expandable demonstrator was developed together with the member companies which shows the way to a Europewide networking of production plants in the planned GAIA-X network. The capability-based encapsulation of production steps by a bot-based control structure is a core feature of the new architecture.
