Abstract

Simulation is an established method in the development of technical systems. However, its application usually requires special knowledge as well as additional effort in generating the models and executing the simulations. The trend towards digitalization and the “digital twin” technology provides a boost to enable their application and continuous use in all phases of the system`s life cycle. This article discusses the now possible, changed role of simulation and the resulting opportunity for virtual commissioning models, and describes the corresponding technological aspects for the further development of simulation.
