Networking apps for complex industrial tasks

Abstract

Tailored to a specific task, mobile applications can offer high usability. However, they do not yet support complex workflows, which require frequent manual switching between apps. To overcome this limitation, we have developed the concept of App Orchestration. This makes it possible to connect the apps with each other while maintaining the work context, e.g. in Virtual Factories. The orchestration process can be automated with models for tasks, workflows, and contexts. The concept was implemented in a prototype and subjected to a formative evaluation.
