Increasing product diversity and shorter product life cycles requires rapid and cost-effective reconfiguration of production systems. One solution is an in sync digital model of existing manufacturing cells. This digital twin can reduce the complexity of reconfiguration by early detection of design or process sequence flaws in the system during virtual commissioning. A prerequisite is a current virtual plant model of the structured, mechatronic resource components of the real plant during the different phases of its life cycle. This article discusses the cross-domain mechatronic data structure of the virtual manufacturing cells in the automotive industry in the context of RAMI 4.0. A systematic method is presented to detect deviations between the digital twin and the real system. Based on this, an anchor-point method is presented for the continuous, cross domain synchronization of mechatronic resource components of the production system with the virtual plant model.
