Abstract

This paper summarizes the results of a cross domain ontology developed within the “Werk 4.0” research project. The ontology enables the formal representation of technical
engineering knowledge and covers the life cycle phases of planning, engineering, and operation of production plants. The goal is to represent components, properties, and dependencies consistently, to create interoperability,
and to allow automated checks based on this representation. The present work describes the methodological approach, the
resulting ontology model, and initial evaluation findings.
