Abstract

Whenever a batch of a certain product is manufactured, a kind of batch-system is used, in which plants are hierarchically structured and automated. With the Module Type Package (MTP) for PEAs (Process Equipment Assemblies), part of the work is already done in the engineering phase. However, since the chemical-pharmaceutical industry largely consists of existing plants that are orchestrated with non-MTP-capable process control systems, the question arises as to what is needed to
integrate new technologies such as PEAs with MTP. In particular, the integration of pre-tested and clearly described modules can reduce the risk of new technologies. This article will present what it takes to use existing batch-systems and modules together with MTP – the hybrid batch.
