Interfaces for Integrated Engineering

Abstract

During engineering and operation of processing plants a multitude of software tools is used. A manual exchange and replication of data is laborious and has a high risk of errors. An Integrated Engineering allows an efficient and consistent data base for the whole plant life cycle. This article shows that neither a central data base nor individual tool-to-tool interfaces are appropriate. Rather a stepwise standardization is proposed, basing on the definition of objects and their attributes. A cooperative approach for standardization seems to enable a rapid realization of Integrated Engineering.
