Asset Administration Shell: solution for the data chaos

From data islands to object-oriented data management

Abstract

For decades, the process industry has been suffering from a lack of consistency in its plant and process data. Industry 4.0 requires data integration over the entire life cycle. The appropriate key to this problem is the asset administration shell. This article uses an example to illustrate how the asset administration shell grows throughout the life cycle. This results in concrete tasks for device manufacturers, integrators, manufacturers of engineering systems and plant operators. The proposed concept fits in with the current approaches MTP, NOA, OPA, and even the old „Tauchnitz cake“.
