Abstract

The concept of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) has been developed since 2018 as a technical implementation to enable interoperable digital twins. The Asset Administration Shell allows the structured collection and management of all digital information of an asset. In the field of factory automation, the AAS is in first productive deployments. NAMUR established the working group AK 1.4 “Verwaltungsschale” in November 2021 to examine and promote the application in the process industry. This paper presents two use cases for the application of the VWS in the engineering of a PCT station and in a device replacement. Based on these examples, requirements and possibilities are developed to support the work flows described in the use cases by Asset Administration Shells and Submodels.
