Abstract

This article demonstrates how digital information models make functional safety in the process industry more efficient throughout the lifecycle. Building on the limitations of document-based approaches, the role/type/instance model, AAS sub-models and the IEC Common Data Dictionary are
described as building blocks. Standards such as DEXPI, NAMUR NE 192, APOS and IDTA are combined to form a harmonised model for SIF, SIS, SIS devices and EUC. It
structures safety-related data in an interoperable and machine-readable manner and supports digital twins as well as automated processes in engineering, operation, testing and change management.
